Fret Not Thyself 2

Psalms 37:1: Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Why should we fret not? Because fretting is a symptom of unbelief. If we make it a habit it is sin. Fretting because of evildoers can cause us to do evil too, else God would not have put that phrase fret not thyself in any wise to do evil after the command.

Romans 12:21: Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

That is an interesting thought. Try to find something good to do that will overcome evil.

Luke 6:35: But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

If there is evil that we cannot overcome, God can overcome it. There are promises in the Bible that can overshadow every issue that we fret about. Admittedly, it is difficult not to fret in the world we live in. We might call Psalms 37 the fret not chapter. It has long been one of my favorite chapters but I had not defined that reason. Fret not is a command. Like most if not all of God*s commands obeying this one will keep us from problems, just now I think of attitude problems. When I am fretting I have the wrong attitude. It is far better for us to think about The Problem Solver than about the problem. When we have problems that God has not yet solved, it is because, in His wisdom, He knows that we need that problem, at least for a time. God promises us problems. Problems teach us that we need Him and that we need to depend upon Him.

2 Timothy 3:12: Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Psalms 119:71: It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Matthew 5:11: Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Romans 5:3: And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Acts 14:22: Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Isaiah 41:10: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. 12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. 13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Fretting takes away our joy and weakens us as believers.

Nehemiah 8:10: Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portion unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Psalms 21:1: The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
